Technology Blog #3: "Using Tools to Support Connected Learning" and How it Relates to my Major

Image
For this week's blog we were assigned to read chapter five of The Connected Educator . This chapter was all about different websites and online tools you can utilize to share information and collaborate with other people. Some of the most notable websites mentioned were Twitter and Google Docs, with other websites also being mentioned that I had never heard of until now. This chapter also discusses how to maintain a good reputation online.               The information that I found the most helpful and useful in this chapter was definitely the section about managing your online reputation. I think that if anyone were to listen closely to anything said in this chapter, it would be that. Looking and staying professional in whatever career you choose is one of the most important things you have to do. Being professional online and building your platforms will also improve your outreach and dis...

App Smackdown: Video Star

Image
The app I have chosen to do for my smackdown is Video Star. Video Star is an IOS app (only available on Apple devices) used for video editing. You can use this app to do multiple things like putting music over a clip, putting clips together or cutting them, adding effects or transitions, etc. Many of the extra features are paid, meaning you do have to pay just to use them, but the base app is free. The app also includes video tutorials on how to use each feature if you are unfamiliar with how to use them.           As to how I would use this app in my coursework, I would use it for assignments that requires any kind of video submission (like this one!) This app would be useful for any kind of social media post or even putting together a concept for something. Because it is an app that you can download on an iPhone or iPad, that makes it even more convenient for on-the-go use and if you need to get somethi...

For this week's assignment, we were assigned to read chapter 6 of The Connected Educator.  This chapter goes into how important it is to utilize personal learning networks (PLN) in your everyday life and in your career. Connecting with other people and sharing ideas is one of the best ways to learn, because you are constantly sharing new ideas or experiences that every individual person has. This chapter gives many different options of where exactly you can start/create your PLN, including Twitter and blog sites. 1000_F_352315912_gt7un3SYrKd3ay4oprq9WNUo8mobuNuR.jpg          The section of this chapter that I found most interesting was the part about what makes a community healthy. I think anyone who wants to use a personal learning network in their career should really take notice of this part as it is the perfect structure for a community. When you have such a large group of people, you really do need to make...
