Technology Blog #4: "Learning to Learn" and How it Connects to my Major
For this week's assignment, we were tasked with reading Chapter 3 of The Connected Educator. This chapter dives into the topic of learning and the several different methods of learning. While this chapter primarily focuses on learning in the field of education and teaching, it is general enough that it can be used for any career path or field of study. In the very beginning of the chapter, it discusses the three major components of knowledge and learning: Knowledge for, in, and of practice.

I personally found knowledge in practice to be the most useful out of the three ways that are talked about. Knowledge in practice stresses the importance of experience and using those experiences to further develop and apply your knowledge to new ideas. Compared to Knowledge for practice, which is just traditional passive learning, you are able to learn from experience, which is one of the best ways to learn. This chapter also discusses Co-Learning, which is sharing knowledge with others to create something new and even better than before.

As for how all of this connects to my major and future career, all of it does, outside from the teaching part of course. Applying your knowledge and experiences while simultaneously sharing with others is an integral part of any creative field. Co-Learning would definitely be important in my major (Communications) because you are constantly working with and for other people to create something. I personally prefer hearing other people's ideas and knowledge as opposed to traditional learning from a book because it allows more connection, emotion, and inspiration. When I'm passively learning, I feel like I'm not retaining a lot of the information because it's usually very straight-foward and dry.
I also prefer communicating with others ideas especially in class. Like for example if we ask questions in class, I like hearing what my classmates ask or think, as it adds more to understanding a topic.
ReplyDeleteI also find that knowledge through practice is the most helpful for me too! I like hands on learning and when I don't get something right the first time, I keep trying until I am able to figure out. I think this is important because. Without experience, advancements in any and all fields would not happen. This is why I think it is super important to go out and find internships for your future career to obtain as much hands on experience as possible. Knowledge cannot harm you, but only help you grow and expand.
ReplyDeleteHey Kate, great job! I really liked how you connected learning through practice to your major. The way you explained co-learning and how it applies to communications made the post relatable and inspiring. It shows how hands-on experience and collaboration can really shape creativity and growth.
ReplyDeleteI liked how you talked about knowledge in person. I always always learned by doing things myself. It helps teach me new things and stick to me It can. Co Learning is amazing because this is how you share information with others and exchange them with one other. It also helps comes with bigger ideas.
ReplyDeleteHi Kate, you did a great job demonstrating the difference between learning from an instructor and learning through everyday experience. I find your point about co learning very reliable to my own experience. I find myself learning better in groups or in direct hands-on situatians. Co learning often leads to stronger results than working alone.
